Motorcycle UAV

San Diego UAV automatically follows motorcycle:

In this video I'm using my new Yuneec Typhoon Q500 G to follow me while I'm riding my 2006 American Ironhorse Texas Chopper.

I'm using their optional Wizard controller which is about the size of a TV remote controller and allows the drone to lock on to its location. So, after I set the drone at the desired height and distance, it will endeavor to follow me.

This 'watch me' mode can keep you in frame automatically up to approximately 22 miles an hour. In this our first test of this feature, there was obviously a lag time from the time I started moving to the time the drone started to move and since I was being overly cautious, I did not continue at a long enough distance to give the drone enough time to synchronize its speed with my speed.

But, all in all, I consider it a good test, at least as far as a first test goes. In future tests, I hope to find a large enough open and clear roadway that I could ride for enough time to give the drone more than enough time to catch up and hopefully keep me and the bike in the video frame.

If this works out successfully, then I'd like to try having the drone follow me from the back as well as me riding forward toward the drone as it backs up as I approach.

Actually, this could really produce some innovative video footage without additional people controlling the drone flight.
